Dr. Aspen B. Mock has been a secondary English Language Arts instructor (7th, 8th and 9th grade) in Western Pennsylvania for ten years. At her current district, she teaches Composition 9, is an ACE adjunct instructor for Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, serves on the Leadership Team and is the facilitator of the Coding Club. Dr. Mock is currently a KQED Media Literacy Innovator and workshop facilitator & blog contributor for National Geographic Education.
Dr. Mock graduated from Point Park University with a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership & Administration in 2018, also receiving her K-12 Principal’s Certificate. Her dissertation is entitled “Collaborative Creativity: Educational Leadership Real & Reimagined”, in which she identified themes essential to build a creative, collaborative educational culture. She earned her bachelors degrees in English Literature and Theatre and minor in French in 2006, and her master’s degree in Teaching English in 2009. She studied Shakespeare in a study-abroad program at Oxford University in 2009, and is trained by the Pennsylvania Literacy Network.
Dr. Mock has received several awards, grants and scholarships, most notably: YWCA Tribute to Women Award in Arts & Letters (2012), Citation from the House of Representatives (2012), Business & Professional Women PA Young Careerist Award (2012) and PA Council on the Arts Grant (2015).
She holds the following certifications: PBS Media Literacy Certified Educator, National Geographic Certified Educator, Nearpod Certified Educator, Flipgrid Certified Educator, Certified Microsoft Innovative Educator, Google Certified Educator, Apple Teacher, Newsela Teacher Trainer, Symbaloo PD Certified Trainer, and SAS Integration Trainer (PA Dept. of Ed.).
She is an award-winning playwright and has written two plays for major organizations to raise funds for both cancer and spina bifida awareness, as well as produced and directed a youth theatre academy for 5 years. She is a teacher member of Folger Shakespeare Library, ASCD, and NCTE.
